John 17:3 Meaning This Is Eternal Life
This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.

John 17:3 · World English Bible
This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
Eternal life is not a span of time added to existence but a way of knowing. To know the one true God is to recognize that only Love is real and that separation never happened, and this knowing is itself the life that has no end, for it rests on what cannot change.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Eternal life is not a span of time added to existence but a way of knowing. To know the one true God is to recognize that only Love is real and that separation never happened, and this knowing is itself the life that has no end, for it rests on what cannot change.
To know the one He sent is to accept the teacher of Love in oneself, the part of the mind that remembers its Source. Turning from the ego's endless dream of idols to serve and things to fear, and resting in the single truth, a mind has already entered the eternal it never truly left.

EGO & BEING
You imagine eternal life as endless time, more of the same self stretching on forever, and something in you rightly finds that exhausting rather than freeing. But look again. What is being pointed to is not a length of time at all. It is a quality of knowing, available now, that has nothing to do with duration. To truly know the sacred is not to believe facts about it but to touch it directly, where you and it are not two.
This knowing is not information. It is awareness recognizing its own source, the moment you go so quiet that the boundary between seeker and sought grows thin. That is eternal life, not because it goes on and on, but because it lies outside time, in the ever present now where the deepest reality is met face to face. You do not have to wait for it or die into it. It opens here, in any moment you are present, as awareness knowing the ground from which it rose.

MANIFESTATION
The only God is your own awareness of being, the I AM in you, and to know it is to know there is no other power anywhere. Jesus Christ, the one sent, is your own imagination, the creative faculty by which that awareness expresses itself and shapes your world. Father and Son are not two beings in the sky. They are one relationship inside you: the awareness that you are, and the imagining through which you become.
Life eternal is this knowing carried all the way home, the discovery that the God you searched for and the imagining self that answers you were always yourself. A man who leans on an outside deity stays a beggar. A man who knows that his own I AM is God, and his own imagination the Christ that saves him, has stepped out of death. To know this is to hold your life in your own hands.

SUFISM
Maʿrifa: Knowing God directly Al-Ghazali used maʿrifa for knowing God the way you know a friend, not the way you know a fact about a friend. A person can hold every correct belief about God and still have met no one. This knowing settles in and shows up in how someone treats their days, well past anything they could explain.
I was a hidden treasure and I loved to be known: being known is why anything exists Sufis repeat these as words God spoke about why he made anything at all. If being known is the reason things exist, then a full life can still feel hollow at the center, and that hollow feeling is telling the truth. The ache a person cannot name sits at the middle of their life rather than off to one side.
Tawḥīd: God's oneness Tawḥīd is the seeing that God alone stands on his own, and everything else is borrowed. Most people spread their trust across money, approval, and safety, and never see how divided that leaves them. Al-Ghazali described the heart being drawn back from all of it to one place, so a person stops being pulled in five directions.
Al-Insān al-Kāmil: The complete human being Ibn Arabi wrote about the person made so clear that God can be seen in them, like a clean mirror. People cannot get hold of someone invisible, so God lets himself be known through a life they can watch. Seeing how such a person forgives, tells the truth, and holds up under pressure teaches more about God than any argument.
Baqāʾ: Living on in God Junayd used baqāʾ for the life that remains in a person once they stop living for themselves. Nothing dramatic shows on the outside, since they still work and eat and sleep like anyone. The change is in where their life comes from, and that source does not run out when the body does.
Christian Psychology lens
What am I treating as the thing that will finally make me real?
Knowing is not collecting facts about the truth, it is being what is true. That knowing does not begin or end, so it was never a span of time.
The lover does not learn about the beloved, the lover wakes up next to what was always there. Nearness is not distance crossed.
The thing you can name and tally is not the thing itself. Set the idols down and what remains is simply what is.
