John 19:10 Meaning Pilate Therefore Said to Him

Pilate therefore said to him, “Aren’t you speaking to me? Don’t you know that I have power to release you and have power to crucify you?”

What does John 19:10 mean?

The governor believes the power sits with him, and the silent man before him knows better. Pilate stands for the reasoning mind, the part of a person that judges by appearances and thinks its verdict is final.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The governor believes the power sits with him, and the silent man before him knows better. Pilate stands for the reasoning mind, the part of a person that judges by appearances and thinks its verdict is final. It threatens to fix or ruin a man's fate. But the one who holds his peace has withdrawn all authority from that voice.

No outer circumstance and no worried judgment can crucify a state you refuse to let go of, nor release one you have chosen to keep. The power the governor boasts of is borrowed, and it is borrowed from the very man he questions. His silence carries no weakness. A person keeping still that way declines to hand his imagination over to the loud opinions around him. Whatever he steadily holds within is what stands, and the outer voice, for all its threats, decides nothing.

  1. When a notification lands that spikes your pulse, put the phone face down for two minutes before you open it. You decide when it gets to move you.
  2. If someone tells you today what you can and cannot expect from your own life, let them have their opinion and keep your own. You can be kind about it and still not sign.
  3. In the tense moment at work, the raised voice, the email in all caps, say less than you want to. Silence there is not giving in, it is you declining to hand over the wheel.

Whose verdict have I been treating as final when it was only ever their opinion?
