John 19:16 Meaning So Then He Delivered Him to Them

So then he delivered him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away.

What does John 19:16 mean?

The anointed consciousness is handed over to the crossing, the intersection where the vertical line of spirit meets the horizontal line of matter in the body. To be crucified is to be fixed at that meeting point, the spirit nailed into flesh so that the 2 axes hold in one frame.

Esoteric

The anointed consciousness is handed over to the crossing, the intersection where the vertical line of spirit meets the horizontal line of matter in the body. To be crucified is to be fixed at that meeting point, the spirit nailed into flesh so that the 2 axes hold in one frame. The crowd that takes him and leads him away is the mass of lower thoughts, the reasoning powers that seize the higher light and march it toward its fixing in the physical.

This is the descent every awakened life undergoes: the pure awareness pinned to the body of sense, led out of the judgment hall of the mind and toward the place where spirit and matter are joined and held.

Cross: the meeting of the vertical spirit and the horizontal body, the intersection where the 2 are fixed together in a person Jesus: the anointed higher consciousness, the light of awareness led down into the flesh

Live John 19:16 today

  1. Do one ordinary chore today, dishes or folding laundry, with your full attention in your hands. This is where your life is actually happening, not in the thoughts about it.
  2. When you are with someone, put the phone out of reach and out of sight. Being fully in the room with another person costs something, and that cost is the point.
  3. On the commute or in the grocery line, instead of escaping into a screen, feel your feet on the floor and your breath moving. Stay inside your body for the length of the wait.

Where today am I trying to be awake somewhere other than in my own body?

The same truth in other traditions

Bhagavad Gita 2

The unchanging dwells in a body that changes and dies. The deathless is not somewhere else; it is housed right here in what wears out.

Zen · Dogen

Awakening does not pull you out of your ordinary life. It is carried in this body, in chopping and carrying and sitting, nowhere finer than that.

Hasidic Judaism

The soul descends into a body not as punishment but as assignment. The whole point is the joining, spirit held inside matter and doing its work there.
