John 2:1 Meaning The Third Day

The third day is an assumption come to term, the point where something long held quietly inside finally arrives. The marriage is the wedding of understanding to application, two that were apart now joined: the water of what you grasp turning into the wine of what you live. Here the water becomes wine when knowing is carried into feeling and acted from as already so.

The mother of Jesus is present because Jesus is fulfilled desire, and the mother is the desire itself, the wish that has already felt itself satisfied and so gives birth to its own answer. Nothing outer has changed yet. The wedding has happened within, where the thing understood and the thing lived become one, and the desire that felt itself met is standing there as the parent of everything that follows. That inner marriage is what turns understanding into a life.

New life comes on the third day, the resurrection, the sun risen again after the flesh has had its long night. The marriage is the celestial wedding of the coming age, the union of the human with the divine that the old myths tell as gods reunited in the heavens. Galilee is the circuit of the brain, the round the currents travel through the head, and the water there is about to be raised into wine, the lower turned into the higher.

The mother of the anointed one is present, and the mother is the spirit, the feeling nature that gives the light its form. Water into wine is not a trick at a feast. It is the plain truth of ordinary life lifted into spirit inside the head.
