John 21:20 Meaning Then Peter

Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”

What does John 21:20 mean?

The crucifixion was an inner and symbolic experience, and the beloved one leaning close is the faculty that rests against the source of divine nourishment. The breast is the place of that nourishment, and to lean upon it is to draw awareness directly from the higher mind, which is what Lord names within a person.

Esoteric

The crucifixion was an inner and symbolic experience, and the beloved one leaning close is the faculty that rests against the source of divine nourishment. The breast is the place of that nourishment, and to lean upon it is to draw awareness directly from the higher mind, which is what Lord names within a person. Peter turns and sees this closeness following him: the practicing self recognizes the part of itself that stays nearest the inner supply, fed straight from the center rather than reaching for it from a distance.

The part of a person that stays closest to the higher mind is fed directly from it, resting against the very source of inner nourishment.

Live John 21:20 today

  1. Before you reach for your phone in the morning, sit for two minutes with nothing in your hands. Let the first thing that fills you come from inside you rather than from the screen.
  2. Spend time today with the person who steadies you, even if it is just a short call on the drive home. Say something true instead of trading updates.
  3. When the day gets loud and you feel yourself reaching outward for something to fix the feeling, a snack, a scroll, a vent to a group chat, pause and stay put for sixty seconds. Let the quiet feed you first.

Where do you go for comfort when the thing you actually need is already closer than that?

Do not go looking for water with a bucket when there is a spring under your own feet. The seeker who leans close drinks without reaching.

Upanishads

Two birds sit in one tree. One eats the fruit and flits about, the other watches in stillness. The watcher is nearest to the root of things, and the restless one forgets it is there.

Tao Te Ching 6

The spirit of the valley is spoken of as a source that is drawn on forever and never runs dry. Draw from it and it is not spent.
