John 3:12 Meaning If I Told You Earthly Things
If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

John 3:12 · World English Bible
If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
A mind that will not accept the gentle correction offered in the language of the world is not yet ready for the truth that lies past all images. The earthly things are the simple parables of forgiveness, love spoken in terms the world can grasp, and if these are refused, the deeper reality has no ground to land on.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
A mind that will not accept the gentle correction offered in the language of the world is not yet ready for the truth that lies past all images. The earthly things are the simple parables of forgiveness, love spoken in terms the world can grasp, and if these are refused, the deeper reality has no ground to land on. Belief is built from what one is willing to receive.
This is not a closing of the door but a description of how the mind learns. It cannot leap to what it will not first admit in small and homely form. When even the plain lesson of love is turned away, the higher knowledge waits, not withheld out of judgment but simply unreachable by a mind that has refused the step before it.
Earthly things: the plain lessons of forgiveness, love told in the world's own images so the mind can begin to receive it Heavenly things: the truth beyond all images, the reality a mind can hold only after it has accepted the gentler lesson first

MANIFESTATION
The plain teaching comes first: hold a state and feel it to be so, and it hardens into fact. That is the ground-floor law, the everyday thing spoken of here, and a person who cannot trust even this is in no position to receive what stands above it. The higher truth waits on the lower being believed.
Above the law of assumption sits the birth from within, the awakening of your own imagination out of the skull, called here the heavenly thing. It is not another lesson but the same power seen at its summit. One who will not credit that his feeling shapes his world will never credit that he himself is the creative power buried in man, waiting to be born. Belief in the small proves the door to the great. A person meets the higher only by first trusting the lower.

ESOTERIC
The earthly and the heavenly are 2 ranges of the same self, the body and the mind that lives above it. What comes through the senses, the touchable and the near, is the earthly, and if a person cannot receive the meaning hidden in that, the higher registers of consciousness stay shut. Understanding rises from the ground up. The visible must be read before the invisible opens, because the higher mind speaks in the same figures the lower one already refused.
The teacher here is the awakened faculty inside a man, speaking to Nicodemus, the reasoning self that comes by night still half asleep. Belief is not agreement with a claim: it is the inner readiness that lets a truth take root. Where the plain images of the body are not grasped, nothing subtler can be grasped either.
Earth: the body and the world of the senses, the near and touchable ground where meaning first shows itself. Heaven: the higher reaches of consciousness within a person, the mind above the body that reads in figures.
Christian Psychology lens
Which small lesson have I been skipping while waiting for a bigger one to arrive?
Do not reach for the far thing while stepping over the near one. Sweep your own doorway, keep your word, and the larger understanding grows out of that ground.
Before any talk of awakening, chop the wood and carry the water. A student who will not wash his bowl has nowhere to put a deeper teaching.
Do not quote the great principles while losing your temper at dinner. Practice them on the small daily irritations, or you have not learned them at all.
