John 3:16 · World English Bible
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
God loved first, and the measure of that love is the one Son He handed over, no second to send. The world receiving it is the human race unimproved and in no position to ask.

PROTESTANT
God loved first, and the measure of that love is the one Son He handed over, no second to send. The world receiving it is the human race unimproved and in no position to ask.
Believing in Him is trusting yourself to a person, not agreeing that claims about Him hold. "Whoever believes" keeps the door that wide, with no one screened out. Perishing is the fate already running, God's judgment behind it, and the Son was given to spare people from it. Eternal life is what that trust receives, life of God's coming age that does not run out.

CATHOLIC
Love here is not a warm feeling but a gift, and the gift is a Person. God hands over his own Son, holding nothing back, because he wants every person ever born to share his life. That word "world" is wide on purpose. It leaves no one out, no matter how far off they feel.
To "believe" is more than agreeing that Jesus existed. It means trusting him enough to hand him your whole life and let that trust reshape how you live. Do that, and death is no longer a dead end. "Everlasting life" is God's own unending life, begun quietly now and opening fully after we die.

ORTHODOX
Everything begins with God's love, not with our worthiness. The Church holds that the Father gave His own Son, sharing His very self, to rescue a world that could not rescue itself. This was no distant gesture but the giving away of what was most precious, so that death would not be the end of us.
Believing in Him is not merely agreeing an idea is true; it is entrusting your whole life to Him. In plain words: God loved people so deeply that He gave His Son to save them, and anyone who trusts Him is pulled out of death into life that never ends.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Love does not give a thing; it extends itself, and what is given is the whole of what the Giver is. A mind that has believed itself alone and perishable hears that it was never withheld from, that nothing of its Source was kept back. To believe in the Son is to accept that this changeless innocence is one's own, that the fragile self which fears an ending was only a mistake about identity.
The promise of everlasting life is not a reward earned by the frightened; it is the simple truth that what love creates cannot die. A mind stops perishing the moment it stops mistaking itself for the body that seemed to hold it.
Son: the whole innocent Self that love extends, the true identity a mind wrongly traded for a fragile body. World: the mind that believes itself separate and mortal, the seeming place where love appears to be lacking.

EGO & BEING
So loved is the key phrase, not so judged, not so tested. What is described here is not a transaction requiring performance but a condition already in place, an underlying reality of the universe as unconditional as the ground beneath your feet. Belief, in this sense, is not intellectual agreement with a doctrine. It is trust deep enough to stop resisting what already surrounds you.
Everlasting life is not a reward delayed until after death. It is what opens the instant you stop identifying with the fear-based, separate self and recognize the life that has no beginning or end already moving in you, right now, as this very awareness reading these words. That love was never something you had to qualify for. It was the condition you were born into.

MANIFESTATION
The Son given here is not a man who lived once and died on a hill outside a city. He is the child born from above, out of your own skull, imagination waking inside you as your own identity. God loves the image of a self buried in you the way a maker loves the thing he is quietly shaping, and he keeps loving it until it stirs and comes alive as a living being. That second birth is the whole point.
The one carried through it, who lets the old idea of himself dissolve and feels the new one begin, does not run down and vanish the way a mere person does. He has come awake at the level that never ends. The everlasting life is that awakening, God born as a man from inside him.

ESOTERIC
The world God loves is the flesh, the lower nature of a person, and the only begotten Son given into it is the Christ-power, the higher self born down into the body to redeem it. To believe in him is to trust and turn toward that inner light rather than the outer man. Whoever does so does not perish with the passing flesh but enters the deathless life already present within. The saving does not come from far away; it is the higher self descending into your own nature to lift it.
World: the flesh, the lower nature of a person into which the higher is given Only begotten Son: the Christ-power, the higher self born down into the body to redeem it
Protestant lens
Am I still trying to earn something that was already handed to me?
An old saying has God speak: I was a hidden treasure, and I loved to be known, so I made the world. Love moved first, before anyone asked for anything.
Whenever things fall apart, the divine comes down into the mess itself rather than calling from above it. The descent is the love, not a consequence of our deserving.
The way gives rise to everything, feeds it, and asks nothing back. It does not sort what it nourishes into worthy and unworthy.
