CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind has long believed that peace lives in a place, that God can be reached by standing on the right ground and not the wrong one. But the Father is not found on this mountain or that city, for holiness was never a matter of location. Every quarrel over the sacred site is the ego's way of keeping the search external, where it can never end.

The hour that comes is the recognition that worship happens only in the mind. When the mind stops asking where God is and begins to look within, the whole geography of separation quietly falls away.

This mountain: the holy site the mind defends as the one place God can be met, a location standing in for the inner altar Jerusalem: the rival sacred ground, the belief that truth belongs to one people or one spot and is withheld from another

Live John 4:21 today

  1. Instead of waiting for the right setting to feel calm, the weekend, the trip, the quiet house, take one minute of stillness exactly where you are, dishes in the sink and all.
  2. When a conversation turns into whose group has it right, step out of the scoring and ask the person what they actually love about their way. Curiosity dissolves a border faster than an argument.
  3. In the middle of a hard day, when your whole body says you need to be somewhere else, stay and breathe for thirty seconds first. Then decide whether to move.

Am I waiting for a better place to be at peace?

You do not need to go out the door to know what the world is. The further you travel looking, the less you find.

Upanishads

The one you are looking for in temples sits in the space of your own heart. Pilgrimage does not shorten that distance because there is no distance.

Zen

Stop looking for the moon and look at where you are pointing from. The place you stand is already the place.
