CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind imagines that returning to God is a labor of effort, a mountain of deeds to be climbed. Yet the only work asked of it is to trust the presence sent to remind it of what it is. Belief here is not strain but relief, the willingness to let the awakened teacher be true instead of the ego's fear.

The ego builds an endless ladder of tasks so that peace always waits beyond the next rung. But the single thing required is to lay down that ladder and accept the one who was sent. A mind that trusts this presence has done the only work there is, and finds that what it labored so hard to reach was already given.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Only one labor is asked, and it is inward. To believe on him whom he hath sent is to trust the state a person has been given to assume, the desired end held as already so. That sent one is not a distant figure but the wish fulfilled, standing before the mind and waiting to be believed in.

The work of God is not effort in the world, not striving or arranging or forcing outcomes. It is the single act of resting the whole of belief on the unseen state until it is felt to be so. Everything a person does with his hands is beside the point if he withholds this. A state believed in becomes the state a person lives from, and the believing is the entire work. Nothing else is required and nothing else will do.

Live John 6:29 today

  1. Delete one item from your list today that only exists to make you feel like you have earned your own rest. Then take the rest anyway.
  2. Let someone help you with something you had decided you must handle alone. Accepting it is harder than doing it, and that is the point.
  3. When you are behind and the pressure says to push harder, try the opposite for five minutes. Sit still, stop solving, and come back to the work without the whip.

What am I still trying to earn that was given to me a long time ago?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 48

The way is reached by taking away, not by piling on. Striving builds a ladder; trust puts it down.

Zen

A student asked how to attain the way and was told to stop adding to it. There is nothing to earn, only something to stop arguing with.

Hinduism · Bhagavad Gita

Krishna tells Arjuna to lay down every other method and simply trust. The surrender is not one more task on the list; it is the end of the list.
