John 6:42 Meaning They Said

They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven?’ ”

What does John 6:42 mean?

The crowd measures the creative power by its outward wrapping, tracing it to a known father and mother, and so they miss what stands before them. This is the ordinary mind, which judges every man by his history and circumstances and cannot believe that something limitless is dwelling inside so plain a form.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The crowd measures the creative power by its outward wrapping, tracing it to a known father and mother, and so they miss what stands before them. This is the ordinary mind, which judges every man by his history and circumstances and cannot believe that something limitless is dwelling inside so plain a form. They know the parents and miss him.

Coming down from heaven names how a desired state descends into a person and takes on flesh in his own experience. The power that answers is not born of his surroundings; it is the awareness of being, present and whole, however humble the life it wears. When a person accepts that his own imagining is the source rather than the family and facts around him, the confusion clears. What looks like the son of Joseph is the creative I within, come down to be lived.

Live John 6:42 today

  1. Catch yourself sizing up your own life by its paperwork today, where you grew up, what your job title is, what your family did. Then set that aside and act from the part of you that was never issued by any of it.
  2. When someone sorts you by your history, your accent, your old role in the family, let it pass without correcting them. You do not need them to see it for it to be true.
  3. In a meeting where you feel like the least credentialed person in the room, say the thing anyway. The worth of what you see does not come from your resume.

What am I refusing to believe about myself because the outside of my life looks so ordinary?

The teachers warn against mistaking the finger for the moon. People trace a thing back to its wrapping and miss what the wrapping was pointing at.

Tao Te Ching 70

My words are simple and easy, he says, yet no one can follow them. The plainness itself is why they are overlooked.

He says you look for the treasure everywhere except in the ruined house where it is buried. The ordinary and unimpressive address is the one holding it.
