John 6:44 Meaning No One Can Come to Me Unless
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

John 6:44 · World English Bible
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
Coming to Christ lies outside anyone's own power. Trying harder does not produce it; the power to come has to be given, and the Father gives it.

PROTESTANT
Coming to Christ lies outside anyone's own power. Trying harder does not produce it; the power to come has to be given, and the Father gives it. The Father who draws is the one who sent the Son, so the pull ends at the Son Himself.
The last day was a fixed expectation among Jews: God raising the dead bodily and judging at the end. Christ pledges to do that raising Himself, and He pledges it to the one who comes to Him. The promise reaches past a better life now to a body out of a grave.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The mind cannot reason or force its own way back to love; it is drawn home by a pull it did not create, the quiet attraction of its Source calling it toward what it truly is. The awakening is not an achievement wrung from effort but a response to a love that was always reaching for it.
The ego insists the mind must save itself by its own striving, and so it labors and never arrives. But no one comes to truth alone. A gentle drawing does the work, and the raising up is sure, for the day the mind stops resisting that pull is the day it wakes. What seemed a distant end is only the moment it lets itself be brought home.
Father: the mind's Source, the love that draws it home by its own quiet attraction rather than by any effort of its own.

MANIFESTATION
No one reaches a new state of being by pushing toward it from the outside. The pull comes from within. The Father is the deeper awareness in a man, the sense of I AM beneath everything he feels himself to be. Once that awareness accepts a wish as its own, it draws the whole man forward into the life matching it.
So desire is the drawing. What a person longs for is the invisible hand already reaching for him, and he could not want it unless the fulfillment were quietly seeking him in return. The last day is the moment that assumption ripens into fact and stands up in the outer world. A state held long enough is raised, made visible, delivered. The wanting was never idle. It began the arrival.

ESOTERIC
The drawing is an inward pull, not a summons from outside; the Father is the ground of being at the center of a person, and no one reaches the Christ-awareness except by that inner magnetism turning the attention homeward. Effort of the outer will alone never arrives, because coming is a response to being drawn.
The last day is not a date on the calendar of the world but the final stage of an inner ripening, the moment consciousness is lifted into its full stature. Raising up is the completion of that pull, when the awareness that was drawn is at last brought fully awake within the body.
Father: the ground of being at a person's center whose pull turns the attention inward Last day: the final stage of inner ripening when awareness is raised to its full height

PSYCHOANALYSIS
The conscious mind likes to think it chooses its own way. But anyone who has felt a sudden pull toward something larger knows the choice was not theirs. A man may chase a goal for years, then wake one morning drawn toward something new he cannot name.
That something is not outside him. It is the deeper center of the mind, older and wider than the everyday self, working through dreams and longings. The movement toward wholeness rises from a part of him he did not make and cannot control, and that same deeper source, not the will, brings it to its finish.

SUFISM
Jadhba: The pull from God The pull starts on God's side, though most people assume they arranged their own turning, picking a day the way you pick a job. More often it happened to them, through a death, a book, a night they cannot explain. Sufis say one moment of that pull moves a person further than years of their own effort.
Your calling out was already My answer: the longing came from elsewhere Rumi tells of a man who called on God for years, heard nothing back, and was told his calling had been the answer. Anyone who wonders whether they were ever wanted looks outside for a sign and walks past the plainest one. The wish to come close is already the mark of having been reached.
Mīthāq: The promise made before birth The Quran tells of God asking every soul before it was born to acknowledge him as Lord, and every soul agreeing. That first yes is why the pull never feels like a stranger's hand on your arm. Being drawn feels closer to remembering than to learning, and people are often surprised how familiar it is.
Tawfīq: Being handed the ability to act God supplies the ability, and hearing that you cannot come on your own can sound like a door shutting in your face. The thing meant is quieter: the energy to get up, the willingness that arrived on the right morning, the nerve that was missing last year. Your effort stays yours, and it was being carried the whole time.
Baqāʾ: Living on in God Junayd said the path is God making you die to yourself and then live in him. A promise of being raised later can sound like something saved for a funeral, but it also means the one who pulled you will not let go halfway. Whatever the self loses along the way comes back as life given by God.
Protestant lens
What have I been straining to produce in myself that I could only be given?
Not only does the thirsty one seek water, the water seeks the thirsty. The longing you feel is already the answer traveling toward you.
Shinran taught that our own effort cannot carry us, and that we are carried by a power outside ourselves. Trying harder was the last thing to be let go of.
To those who hold on steadily, the understanding by which they come is given, not achieved. The clarity is a gift handed over, not a summit reached.
