John 9:2 Meaning His Disciples Asked Him
His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

John 9:2 · World English Bible
His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
No one sinned. The blindness was not punishment collected for some old wrong, neither the man's nor his parents', and the question misreads the whole scene.
From the Manifestation reading below.
The same verse, read by 2 traditions.

MANIFESTATION
No one sinned. The blindness was not punishment collected for some old wrong, neither the man's nor his parents', and the question misreads the whole scene. The man was born blind because blindness was the part written for him to play, a role scripted into the drama so that the works of God could be shown through him. He agreed to the darkness the way an actor agrees to a difficult scene, and the darkness serves a purpose larger than himself.
Every painful state a person wears is a part taken up inside one great story, and no part is a verdict on the one who wears it. The blindness is a costume, not a sentence. In the end every role is forgiven and every player restored to wholeness, the blind man among them, so that nothing enacted is finally lost. The suffering was never earned. It was cast.

ESOTERIC
Inner blindness is the mind not yet opened to the light within, the state of a person who cannot see the truth of his own being. The question searches for a cause in the past, in the man or in those before him, because the intellect always wants to trace a fault backward. But the condition is not a punishment carried down; it is simply the unawakened state, the eye of understanding still closed. Blindness here is the sleep of consciousness before it is quickened, and the parents are the earlier conditions a person inherits, the inherited flesh and mind he is born into. The darkness is not owed to sin. It is the not-yet-seeing that every person begins in.
The man born blind: the person whose inner eye of understanding is not yet opened to the light within The parents: the inherited conditions of body and mind a person is born into
Manifestation lens
What have I been quietly blaming myself for that was never a verdict at all?
The self is not what acts out the scene. It watches the play unfold, untouched by the part the body has been given.
You are an actor in a play whose script you did not write. Your only task is to play the part given well, not to judge yourself for its difficulty.
The mirror is not stained by what it reflects. Whatever is passing across it was never what it is.
