Joshua 1:7 · World English Bible

Joshua 1:7 Meaning Only Be Strong and Very Courageous

Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

What does Joshua 1:7 mean?

Courage here is aimed, not scattered. The new leader is told to hold one line and refuse the pull to either side, because a self-image that wavers by the hour arrives nowhere.

Cybernetics

Courage here is aimed, not scattered. The new leader is told to hold one line and refuse the pull to either side, because a self-image that wavers by the hour arrives nowhere. Prosperity is promised to the man who keeps a fixed heading while the ground keeps changing under him.

The automatic mechanism carries a person best when it is not asked to chase three directions at once. Strength becomes useful the moment it has a course. A steady aim, held through every kind of country, is what finally brings someone through.

Live Joshua 1:7 today

  1. Name the one direction you are actually going this season, in a sentence you could say in the shower. If you cannot say it plainly, that is the work for today.
  2. Say no once today to something sideways, a favor, an invitation, an interesting tangent in a group chat, and let your no be friendly and short.
  3. When pressure arrives and three urgent things pull at once, ask which one belongs to your direction. Handle that first and let the other two be handled later or not by you.

What pulled me off course this week, and did I even see it happening?

The same truth in other traditions

Bhagavad Gita 2

Steady action with one aim carries a person through. The mind that branches at every turn scatters its own strength.

Tao Te Ching 33

Mastery is holding your course, not forcing it. The one who keeps to a direction travels further than the one who keeps changing his mind.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Decide who you mean to be, then keep to it whether you are alone or watched. Character is just the same direction held long enough.
