SELF-HELP
Fear does not forecast the defeat, it arranges it, and the losing side usually announces the winner first.
Conviction about an outcome works as a cause. It sets the emotion, the emotion decides whether a hand grips its weapon or lets it go, and enough loosened hands make the conviction true before dawn.
Two camps that night held identical certainty about a battle nobody had fought, and the certainty that God had already handed over the result was the same conviction on both sides, running one direction in a tent of enemies and the other in the man they feared. What that costs the frightened side is everything: strength intact, numbers intact, and a night spent rehearsing their own collapse while their swords were still in their hands.
