Luke 1:48 Meaning For He Has Looked at the Humble

for he has looked at the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.

What does Luke 1:48 mean?

A young woman marvels not at her own worth but at being seen in her smallness. The heart's usual sickness is the reverse: it wants to be noticed for its height, its achievements, its name.

Sufism

A young woman marvels not at her own worth but at being seen in her smallness. The heart's usual sickness is the reverse: it wants to be noticed for its height, its achievements, its name. Here the lowness itself is what drew the gaze.

The cure is to stop climbing for attention and let being small become the open place where grace can land. God is present as the One who looks, choosing the humble hollow the way water gathers in the lowest ground. What the generations will one day call blessed begins in that quiet.

Live Luke 1:48 today

  1. Do one piece of your work today without telling anyone about it, and resist the urge to post it, forward it, or mention it in passing.
  2. Ask someone a real question and let them be the interesting one for the whole conversation. Do not steer it back to you, not even once.
  3. When you get passed over, left off the thread, or thanked last, let the sting pass without correcting the record. See what is underneath the wanting to be seen.

Where am I climbing for attention, and what would open up if I stopped?
