Luke 10:36 Meaning Now Which of These Three Do You

Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?

What does Luke 10:36 mean?

Ask who qualifies for your love and you will argue forever; ask who acted like it and the argument ends. Debating who counts keeps a man busy and safe, which is exactly what he wants when he would rather be justified than changed.

Ask who qualifies for your love and you will argue forever; ask who acted like it and the argument ends.

Debating who counts keeps a man busy and safe, which is exactly what he wants when he would rather be justified than changed. There is always one more clarification to chase, the mind hunting boundaries will always find one, and the chase passes for seriousness while nobody gets picked up off the road.

Aiming the same subject at conduct produces a verdict in seconds, because behavior is not open to interpretation the way categories are. Jesus does not out-argue anyone here; he changes what is being asked and lets the man convict himself with his own answer. Keeping the original question costs a person nothing they can see, which is why they can discuss obligation at length and step over someone bleeding without ever feeling in the wrong.

Live Luke 10:36 today

  1. When you catch yourself building a case for why someone does not deserve your time, stop the argument and do one small thing for them instead. Send the text, carry the bag, make the call.
  2. In a group chat where people are deciding who was in the wrong, be the one who asks what would actually help the person in the middle of it, then offer to do that part yourself.
  3. When someone needs something at the worst possible moment, in traffic, five minutes before a meeting, with your hands full, skip the question of whether it is your job and just handle it.

Who is in front of me right now that I have been busy explaining away?

Tao Te Ching 81

The one who truly helps does not keep accounts of who deserves it. Where the ledger begins, the kindness has already stopped.

Buddhism · Metta practice

Goodwill is trained to run past the lines of friend, stranger and enemy, because the moment you sort people the heart narrows to fit the sorting.

Stoicism · Epictetus

He taught that philosophy proves itself in what a person does, not in what they can define, and that someone who only debates the rules is still standing outside the practice.
