Owning the house made the welcome hers to give and the cost of feeding a teacher and his companions hers to carry. Hospitality on that scale counted as devotion to God.

The guest she takes in is God's Son, and His coming near began with Him, not with her open door. Housing Him puts her close to Him without settling anything about her standing before God. That rests on the one she has welcomed, who came to rescue people from their sins.

Virgo lives inside every person as the pull between the hands that never rest and the stillness that waits underneath them. Martha is the part of the emotional nature that keeps serving, arranging, doing, sure that worth is measured in motion. When the divine light enters the body it is taken into that busy self first, welcomed by the very energy that cannot sit down. The whole encounter happens in one room of a person: the restless doer greets the presence that would rather be received in silence than fed with activity.

What comes in is not a guest from elsewhere but the awareness already inside, asking to be met by attention rather than errands. The busy self opens the door; whether it then grows quiet enough to actually receive is the question the body carries.

Woman: the spirit within a person, the receptive inner nature that takes in the light House: yourself, the whole body and consciousness in which the meeting happens Village: the small settled circle of habits a person moves through each day

Live Luke 10:38 today

  1. Make room for one person today without needing it to be impressive. A clean kitchen table and a kettle is enough, and the fuss you were planning was mostly for you.
  2. Invite someone in, or answer the text you have been leaving on read. Open the door before you feel ready, because the readiness never quite arrives.
  3. When you have hosted or helped and nobody thanked you, let the giving stand on its own. Your worth was never riding on whether the dinner went well.

Who would you let in today if you stopped waiting until the house was ready?

He called the human heart a guest house and told us to welcome whoever arrives at the door. The gift is the guest, not the host's skill.

A master kept pouring tea until the visitor's cup ran over, to show that a full cup has no room for what is being offered. Receiving asks for emptiness in the one who receives.

Water takes the low place and serves without claiming credit. The welcome matters, and the one being welcomed is why it matters.
