Luke 10:7 · World English Bible

Luke 10:7 Meaning Remain in That Same House

Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Don’t go from house to house.

What does Luke 10:7 mean?

A mind that has offered peace and found welcome is told to stay, to receive what is given without restless searching for something better elsewhere. To eat and drink what the house provides is to accept a brother's giving as enough, trusting that the meeting already holds what was needed.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind that has offered peace and found welcome is told to stay, to receive what is given without restless searching for something better elsewhere. To eat and drink what the house provides is to accept a brother's giving as enough, trusting that the meeting already holds what was needed. The wish to move from house to house is the ego's hunger, always certain the true supply is somewhere the self has not yet gone.

The one who does love's work is worthy of what love provides, and provision comes through the very ones it was sent to serve. So the mind is asked to rest where it is welcomed and let receiving be a form of giving, since to accept a brother's offering gladly is itself to bless him, and the constant seeking of more is only fear pretending to be need.

House: the mind where peace has been welcomed, the meeting that already holds all that is needed Eating and drinking: the receiving of a brother's giving, the willingness to accept his offering as enough

Live Luke 10:7 today

  1. Take the meal, the evening, the apartment you actually have today and let it be enough for the length of one hour. No scrolling for the better version of it.
  2. When someone offers you their help, their food, their time, accept it fully instead of deflecting. Letting them give is a gift back to them.
  3. In the middle of a workday that feels thin, stop comparing this job, this team, this seat, to the one you imagine elsewhere, and do the next piece of work where you are.

What is already set in front of me that I keep looking past?

Zen

A man wades in the river asking where the water is. Running to the next place is how the thirst keeps itself alive.

Tao Te Ching 46

Contentment is the whole of wealth, and discontent will not be fixed by arriving somewhere else. The restless search is itself the poverty.

Buddhism · second noble truth

Suffering grows out of craving, the constant lean toward the next thing. Receiving what is actually here, gladly, is where the leaning stops.
