Luke 11:36 Meaning If Therefore Your Whole Body Is Full

If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light.

What does Luke 11:36 mean?

When awareness pervades you completely, when no corner of you remains lost in unconscious thought, your whole being becomes light. This is what it means to be fully present: not a flicker of awareness here and a return to the dreaming mind there, but consciousness shining through the whole of you.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

When awareness pervades you completely, when no corner of you remains lost in unconscious thought, your whole being becomes light. This is what it means to be fully present: not a flicker of awareness here and a return to the dreaming mind there, but consciousness shining through the whole of you.

Then even the simplest act glows with aliveness, as a room is filled by a single candle. You are no longer divided against yourself, part awake and part asleep. Presence has become your natural state, and because nothing in you is left in darkness, you meet each moment whole, clear, and awake.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

A lamp does not light a room by wishing. It shines because it is there, uncovered, so its glow reaches every corner. A person is the same. Awareness is that light, and it can only fill someone who has walled nothing off from it.

Most of us keep parts of ourselves in the dark, hidden even from our own eyes, and those parts go on acting without our knowing. When a person brings the hidden pieces into the open and looks at them honestly, nothing is left working against them in secret, and the whole person can finally move as one.

SUFISM

Sufism

A person can keep one back room of the self shuttered, a small pride tucked out of sight, and still call the house bright. But a lamp that lights only half a room leaves the corner dark, and that corner is where the trouble hides. The cure is to let no part stay private from honest self-examination: sweep the last shadow, the grudge no one else sees.

And the light never belonged to the lamp, which only carries it. A heart made whole becomes the clean window through which one greater brightness passes without a stain across it.

Live Luke 11:36 today

  1. Choose one ordinary task today, folding laundry, cutting vegetables, walking the dog, and do only that for its whole length. No second screen, no planning the next thing while your hands work.
  2. Give one person your undivided self for ten minutes today, at dinner or on a call. Nothing else open, nothing else running. Let them have all of you for that long.
  3. When you are rushed between two things today, pause for one breath in the gap instead of mentally arriving before your body does. Then step into the next thing already here.

Which part of me spent today somewhere other than where my body was?

Zen

When you walk, just walk. When you eat, just eat. Nothing left over, nothing held back, and the ordinary day stops being a waiting room.

Tao Te Ching 10

Can you hold your attention whole and undivided, like a child who has not yet learned to be elsewhere? Then what you do carries no strain.
