Luke 12:4 Meaning I Tell You

I tell you, my friends, don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

What does Luke 12:4 mean?

Fear reaches only as far as the body, and the body was never what the mind truly is. To dread what can harm the form is to have already accepted the ego's central lie, that a mind can be threatened from outside and that its life hangs on something that can be broken.

Fear reaches only as far as the body, and the body was never what the mind truly is. To dread what can harm the form is to have already accepted the ego's central lie, that a mind can be threatened from outside and that its life hangs on something that can be broken. But nothing that touches the body can reach the mind that knows it is not the body.

What looks like an enemy with power over you is only guilt seen in a mirror, given a face and made to seem to come from without. When the mind withdraws its fear from the form, there is nothing left for any enemy to do, for the thing it aimed at was never where the mind actually lives.

Body: the form the mind mistakes for itself, the fragile thing an enemy can reach but which the mind was never truly made of Them that kill the body: guilt seen in a mirror, given a face and made to seem an outside threat with power over a mind

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Fear grips you only to the degree that you believe you are this body and nothing more. If form is all you are, then any threat to form is a threat to your very existence, and you will live in the shadow of that dread. This is the ego's deepest error, mistaking the perishable for the whole of you.

But there is that in you which no harm can reach, the formless awareness in which the body and its whole story appear. Those who can end the body have come to the very limit of their power there, because the life that you most deeply are was never the kind of thing that can be killed.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Fear loses its grip once a person sees that the body is only the temple of the holy ghost, a housing, not the true self that dwells in it. What can destroy the temple reaches no further, because the light living inside is untouched by whatever ends the outer structure.

The counsel is to stop dreading the powers that can harm the flesh, for their reach stops at the walls. In plain terms, a person is the awareness housed in the body, not the housing itself, so the worst that can be done to the housing leaves the one inside intact.

Body: the temple of the holy ghost, the outer housing that shelters the light but is not the true self

Live Luke 12:4 today

  1. Name the thing you are most afraid of today, then ask what it could actually take from you. Usually it is smaller and more survivable than the dread suggested.
  2. With the person who seems to hold power over you, speak once without flinching or performing. Their power was mostly something you handed over.
  3. In the moment you feel genuinely threatened at work, feel your feet on the floor and remember that the part of you that matters is not in the room being judged.

What am I protecting that could never really be taken from me?

Your body can be chained, hurt, taken. Your mind cannot be touched by anyone unless you hand it over.

The one who understands what they are loses the fear of what can happen to them, the way water loses nothing by changing shape.
