CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The decision to arise is the miracle itself, the shift from lying down in guilt to standing up in willingness. A mind that has believed itself an exile chooses, in a single instant, to turn back toward the Love it never truly left, and this turning asks nothing of distance or of time, only of the wish to go.
What the wanderer calls sin is the belief in separation, the conviction that it has done real harm to Heaven and to Love. Yet even this confession is already the softening of that belief, for a mind willing to name its fear before Love has stopped hiding from it. The return is not earned by the words but begun by the choosing, and the choosing is enough.
Father: the Love the mind believes it has offended, waiting without judgment for the wanderer's turn toward home. Heaven: the state of union the mind imagines it has broken, whole and unharmed however far the dream has strayed.

EGO & BEING
There comes a moment in your suffering when something in you stirs and says, I will arise and go home. This is the awakening. After years lost in the world of form, you recognize that you wandered from your own source, the still presence within you.
To say I have sinned is simply to see clearly at last that you had been living asleep, lost in a self that was never real. No punishment waits for you. The recognition that you have been lost is itself the beginning of the return, because seeing it turns you back toward the presence that was always home.

ESOTERIC
This is the lower self at the bottom of its wandering, having spent its substance among the senses, turning at last back toward its source. To arise is the lifting of attention from the pigsty of appetite where it had sunk, and to go to the father is the movement of consciousness upward toward the ground from which it fell. The father is no man in a far house but the higher center within a person, waiting unchanged while the lower nature exhausts itself outside.
To have sinned against heaven and before the father is to see how far the mind strayed from its high place. The whole return is one inward turn, the prodigal energy remembering where it belongs.
Father: the higher center within a person, the unchanged source waiting while the lower self wanders Heaven: the elevated state of consciousness the wandering mind has fallen away from

CYBERNETICS
A man sunk among the swine does not rise by hating what he has become. He rises the moment his imagination turns toward home and sees a father still waiting. That picture, formed before a single step, is what lifts him from the mud. The success mechanism cannot steer a life that has no destination in view, and here the destination reappears: the father's house, the father's face.
Confession works the same way. Naming the wrong done against heaven and before his father clears the ledger so the old failures stop scripting the next scene. When a man stops rehearsing his shame and rehearses the road back instead, his whole body leans that way. The journey home begins in the mind, and the legs follow the thing the mind can already see.

SELF-HELP
A confession that asks for no terms is the one decision a person cannot quietly walk back.
Excuses are a way of managing state, and a poor one. While a man keeps assembling his case, his focus stays on defending where he stands, that defense holds shame in place, and shame keeps him in the far country, the only address where being unworthy makes sense.
Naming the wrong against heaven before naming it to a father turns it into a debt no hired labor could ever work off, and that is what closes the retreat: a man who cannot pay cannot bargain, and a man who cannot bargain has one direction left. His life turns at the sentence, not at the gate. He pays for it with the self he was protecting the whole time he was starving.
Christian Psychology lens
What one small move toward someone could I make today instead of planning it again?
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, and the step is available now, not after preparation. Willingness is the whole beginning.
Epictetus taught that you are not required to finish the work today, only to begin acting like the person you intend to be, starting with this moment. The decision is the act.
The tradition holds that the turning back is possible at any hour, and the words said out loud matter less than the honest decision behind them. Naming what went wrong is already the softening.
