Luke 15:19 Meaning I Am No More Worthy to Be

I am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.” ’

What does Luke 15:19 mean?

Even in his return, the son still thinks like the ego. He measures his worth, finds it insufficient, and offers to come back as a servant, as though his place had to be earned.

Ego v. Being

Even in his return, the son still thinks like the ego. He measures his worth, finds it insufficient, and offers to come back as a servant, as though his place had to be earned. The mind cannot imagine being received freely; it believes love must be deserved.

What he does not yet see is that his sonship was never about worthiness. It is simply what he is, forgotten but never lost. The humbling of the ego is necessary, yet something more waits beyond it. You do not have to earn your way back to what you have always been.

Live Luke 15:19 today

  1. When you catch yourself listing reasons you are behind or not good enough, write the list down and then read it back as what it is, a story your mind is telling. You do not have to argue with it, just see it.
  2. Let someone do something kind for you today, pay for the coffee, cover a task, offer a ride, without earning it back or apologizing for it. Say thank you and let it land.
  3. Before a meeting or interview or hard phone call, drop the effort to prove you deserve to be there. Walk in as yourself and let that be enough.

Where am I still trying to earn a place that was never in question?
