Luke 15:32 Meaning But It Was Appropriate to Celebrate

But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’

What does Luke 15:32 mean?

Love gently corrects the grievance by changing a single word. Where the aggrieved mind said this thy son, holding the other at arm's length, Love says this thy brother, restoring the bond the grievance tried to sever.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Love gently corrects the grievance by changing a single word. Where the aggrieved mind said this thy son, holding the other at arm's length, Love says this thy brother, restoring the bond the grievance tried to sever. Joy is not merely permitted here; it is called fitting, the only sane response to a mind's awakening, and the one who withholds it is the one still asleep.

Death and lostness were always conditions of perception, never of reality, and so the return is not a favor granted to a rival but the healing of the one Self the two share. A mind cannot rejoice at a brother's waking and stay estranged from it at the same time. To call him brother again is already to begin coming home oneself.

Brother: the one the mind must recognize as itself, no rival to be resented but the shared Self whose waking is its own.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The father speaks of a death and a return that no burial ever touched. His son was breathing the entire time, yet gone, absent from himself, wandering behind a story of ruin. To be lost in that sense is to be cut off from the aliveness that is always here.

Coming home is a person waking to what they never left. He had only stopped seeing it. Joy is fitting because nothing was built and nothing mended. What seemed dead was life all along, buried under shame, now recognized and welcomed back to the table.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The younger son who wandered off and came home is the awakening person returning to what he has always been. The father he comes back to is the awareness of being, the sense of I AM that every person is and can never lose. He was not dead in the ground; he was dead to his own nature, absorbed in the outer world and forgetting the source of everything he wanted. Turning around is the whole event. He remembers the father, and in that instant he is alive again.

The celebration is not a reward earned by good behavior. A person does not qualify for his own identity. The higher state waits already finished, and the joy comes the moment he faces it and calls it his own. What was lost was never the man himself, only his memory of who he was. Being found is seeing that the power he searched for outside was the awareness he carried the whole way home.

  1. Pick one person you have quietly written off and change the word you use for them in your own mind, from a label back to a name, from "him" to someone you belong to.
  2. When a friend or sibling tells you something good that you have been waiting for yourself, be the first to be happy about it, out loud, before you have sorted out how you feel. Let the gladness go first.
  3. If someone in a meeting or a group thread finally gets something right after a long run of getting it wrong, say so plainly in front of everyone. One sentence is enough.

Whose good news have I been slow to celebrate, and what was I protecting?
