Luke 18:42 Meaning Jesus Said to Him

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”

What does Luke 18:42 mean?

Sight is restored not to the eyes but to the mind that had chosen to see through fear. Blindness here is the decision to look upon a world of threat and guilt, and healing is the willingness to look again with the other Teacher.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Sight is restored not to the eyes but to the mind that had chosen to see through fear. Blindness here is the decision to look upon a world of threat and guilt, and healing is the willingness to look again with the other Teacher. Nothing outside was changed; only the one who looks was changed, and that is the whole of the miracle.

Faith is what saved, for faith is the mind's readiness to trust that love is real and its own innocence intact. The moment that trust is offered, the veil the ego painted over everything simply lifts. Salvation is the quiet return of vision to a mind that agreed, at last, to see.

Live Luke 18:42 today

  1. Reread the message that made your stomach drop, this time assuming the person meant you no harm. Most of the time the second reading is the true one.
  2. Look at one person you have already decided about, the neighbor, the coworker, the in-law, and look again as though you were meeting them today. Same face, new eyes.
  3. In traffic, when someone cuts you off, give them a reason that is not about you. Late for a hospital, bad news on the phone. You will never know, and the choosing is the point.

Where am I seeing a threat today, and what would be there if I looked again without fear?

Zen

Two people look at the same street. One sees threat, one sees morning. The street did not change.

Stoicism · Epictetus

It is not the thing that disturbs you but your view of the thing. Change the view and the thing stands quiet.

Hinduism · Upanishads

The self was never darkened, only unlooked at. Turning the gaze is the whole of the finding.
