Luke 20:36 Meaning For They Can’t Die Any More

For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.

What does Luke 20:36 mean?

A mind that has awakened from the dream of separation discovers that death was part of the dream. What is born of God was never subject to ending, for endings belong only to the body and to the story of a self that could be lost.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind that has awakened from the dream of separation discovers that death was part of the dream. What is born of God was never subject to ending, for endings belong only to the body and to the story of a self that could be lost. To be a child of the resurrection is simply to have remembered this, to have risen out of the belief that life is fragile and can be taken away.

Such a mind is called equal to the angels because it now shares their single certainty, that love has no opposite and cannot die. Nothing in it fears its own undoing anymore. It has seen that what it truly is was never touched by the world it seemed to leave.

Angels: the pure thoughts of God, minds that hold the single certainty that love cannot die Children of the resurrection: minds risen from the belief that life is fragile, awake to what in them was never born and cannot end

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The resurrection is not a distant event but a waking within your own skull to who you are, and its children are those in whom that waking has occurred. Once it happens a person cannot die any more, because he no longer takes himself to be the body that ages and ends. He knows himself as the deathless awareness that only wore the body as a garment.

To be equal to the angels is to be lifted past marriage, sex, and dying, past the whole round of being born and passing on that the unawakened keep repeating in bodies like this one. Death, for such a person, is not extinction; it is exchanging one state for another, the way you set down a worn coat. The children of the resurrection are simply those who have awakened, and having awakened, they are done with dying for good.

Live Luke 20:36 today

  1. If a fear about your health or your years surfaces while you are scrolling at night, put the phone down and sit with the part of you that is doing the worrying. It has been there your whole life and it has never once ended.
  2. Look at someone older in your family, or at an old photo in the group chat, and see the person rather than the countdown. Say something to them today that assumes you have time.
  3. When bad news arrives and your chest tightens, breathe once before you react. Something in you is watching the news calmly, and you can answer from there.

What in me has never aged, even as everything around it did?

Katha Upanishad

The self in you was never born and will never die. It does not come into being or cease to be, and the slaying of the body does not touch it.

Zen · Dogen

Firewood becoming ash is not the firewood waiting to die. Each moment is complete in itself, so there is no before and after for life to fall out of.

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to the stillness underneath everything, and you see things rise and fall without being shaken. The one who rests there is beyond the reach of ruin.
