Luke 20:7 Meaning They Answered That They Didn’t Know Where

They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.

What does Luke 20:7 mean?

A mind that has weighed every answer only for its danger arrives at last at silence, not the silence of peace but the silence of a will that refuses to know. It could tell, yet it will not, for the truth it hides from would ask something of it.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind that has weighed every answer only for its danger arrives at last at silence, not the silence of peace but the silence of a will that refuses to know. It could tell, yet it will not, for the truth it hides from would ask something of it. This is the ego's favored refuge, the pretense of not knowing, where a mind protects its position by choosing blindness over sight.

Such not-knowing is never innocent, for it is a decision made and then forgotten. A mind that answers this way has not lost the truth but buried it, and it can be uncovered the moment the mind is willing to stop defending itself and simply look.

Live Luke 20:7 today

  1. Think of the thing you keep saying you are not sure about, the bill, the test result, the half-finished message. Open it today and read it all the way.
  2. When someone asks you a direct question and you feel "I don't know" rising, pause and check whether you do know and just don't want to say it.
  3. Under pressure at work, if you are hedging to stay out of trouble, name the one fact you have been leaving out. Say it plainly.

What do I already know that I have been careful not to look at?

Stoicism · Seneca

We are not short on knowledge, we are short on willingness. Wanting to be cured is already part of the cure.

Zen

There is no answer for the one who will not look. The door is unlocked and we keep testing the handle with our eyes shut.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot 2:5

The one too ashamed to ask cannot learn. Willingness to be seen not knowing is what opens the door.
