Luke 20:8 Meaning Jesus Said to Them

Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

What does Luke 20:8 mean?

To a mind that will not receive it, truth cannot be handed over like an object, for what is refused cannot be given. The withholding here is not punishment but simple recognition that a closed door opens only from within.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

To a mind that will not receive it, truth cannot be handed over like an object, for what is refused cannot be given. The withholding here is not punishment but simple recognition that a closed door opens only from within. A mind that has decided against understanding will hear nothing, however plainly it is told, and love does not force its way past that refusal.

Authority in the mind is never proven by argument but known by its fruits, and it belongs to the teacher a mind has chosen. Those who ask the question only to trap the answer have already chosen fear as their teacher, and until that choice is undone, no explanation can reach them.

  1. Before you send the long explanation one more time, pause and ask whether the person is actually asking, or just arguing. If it is the second, let your silence be kind rather than cold.
  2. With someone close to you, try going a whole conversation without proving anything. Answer what they ask and let the rest sit unexplained.
  3. When a group chat or comment thread turns into a trap, you are allowed to not play. Put the phone down, leave it unanswered, and let the quiet be your reply.

Who am I still trying to convince, and what would change if I simply stopped?
