Luke 24:31 Meaning Their Eyes Were Opened and They Recognized

Their eyes were opened and they recognized him, then he vanished out of their sight.

What does Luke 24:31 mean?

Recognition and disappearance are the same instant. The moment a mind truly sees love, it no longer needs the form that carried the seeing, for the form was only a door and the door has done its work.

Recognition and disappearance are the same instant. The moment a mind truly sees love, it no longer needs the form that carried the seeing, for the form was only a door and the door has done its work. What vanishes is not the beloved but the belief that love must be held in a shape the eyes can measure. Sight of the body ends where sight of the truth begins.

So a mind grieves the vanishing only while it still trusts its eyes above its heart. When the seeing turns inward the loss is undone, because what was recognized was never outside to be taken. The teacher steps out of the picture the instant the lesson is learned, leaving the mind holding not an image but the certainty the image came to give.

Eyes: the mind's outward looking, the perception that must be corrected before it can know what it sees. Him: love itself wearing a form the mind could meet, a figure that dissolves the moment it is recognized as more than a figure.

Recognition of the inner Christ arrives the instant the true eye opens, and in the same instant the outward form is no longer needed. The eyes that open are not the 2 of the face but the single perceiving center within, and once it sees, the figure that walked beside them dissolves, because what was outside a person has been drawn inside. The breaking of bread just before is the higher self offered and taken into the body, and the vanishing is that presence passing from the seen into the felt, from a companion on the road into a living power within.

He disappears not by leaving but by being absorbed. The moment the deeper sight awakens, the Christ ceases to stand apart and becomes the seer's own interior life, which is why the outer image is gone.

The eyes: the single inner center of perception, which when opened knows the Christ directly and no longer needs an outward form.

  1. If a place, a song, or an object has been carrying a love for you, let yourself keep the love and loosen your grip on the object. The warmth was never stored in the thing.
  2. When a friendship changes shape, a move, a different season of life, say what it gave you out loud to that person if you can. The gift stays even when the form of it does not.
  3. When you are tempted to check a screen for proof that you still matter to someone, put the phone face down for an hour. See whether the certainty is actually in your hand or already in you.

What are you still clutching, when what it came to give you is already yours?
