Luke 5:11 Meaning When They Had Brought Their Boats

When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

What does Luke 5:11 mean?

When a mind has heard the voice for love and felt its fear undone, the letting go that follows is not a sacrifice but a relief. What it forsakes is everything it once leaned on for safety, the small vessel of its own effort and the whole accumulation it thought would keep it afloat.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

When a mind has heard the voice for love and felt its fear undone, the letting go that follows is not a sacrifice but a relief. What it forsakes is everything it once leaned on for safety, the small vessel of its own effort and the whole accumulation it thought would keep it afloat. These fall away easily now, for they were only the props of fear, and fear has been answered.

To follow is simply to keep choosing the teacher that spoke peace. The mind does not abandon its life so much as set down what was never holding it up, and it walks after the one voice that showed it there was nothing to defend and nowhere it could sink.

Ships: the mind's own vessels of effort and self-reliance, the fragile means by which it thought to keep itself safe Land: the solid ground reached when striving ends, the place a mind can at last set its burdens down

Live Luke 5:11 today

  1. Put down one thing today that you have been holding for safety, the backup plan you keep rereading, the app you open when you feel unsteady. See how it feels to walk around without it for an evening.
  2. Stop defending a position in one conversation today. Say, you might be right, and mean it, and feel how much lighter the rest of the talk becomes.
  3. When pressure hits, resist the reflex to grab for more control, more tabs, more checking. Do one thing well and let the rest sit untouched for an hour.

What have you been carrying for protection that is not actually holding you up?
