Luke 7:21 · World English Bible

Luke 7:21 Meaning In That Hour He Cured Many

In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and to many who were blind he gave sight.

What does Luke 7:21 mean?

Every sickness named here is one sickness wearing many faces: the belief that the mind can be harmed against its will. Infirmity, plague, and tormenting spirit are all the outward shapes of guilt, projected onto the body and the world so the mind need not see them as its own.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Every sickness named here is one sickness wearing many faces: the belief that the mind can be harmed against its will. Infirmity, plague, and tormenting spirit are all the outward shapes of guilt, projected onto the body and the world so the mind need not see them as its own. Healing does not treat each shape in turn; it withdraws the single conviction that gave them all their power.

And sight is given to the blind, which is the whole of the correction, for blindness was never in the eyes. A mind that could not see innocence is shown that it was looking through the wrong teacher, and looks again.

Evil spirits: the guilty thoughts a mind disowns and casts outside itself, imagining them as forces that torment from beyond. The blind: the mind that has learned to look through fear and so cannot see the innocence that was always before it.

Live Luke 7:21 today

  1. List the three things bothering you today, then look for the single belief underneath all three. Work on that one instead of the list.
  2. The next time you are sure someone is the problem, pause and ask what you cannot see about them. Then ask them one honest question and listen to the whole answer.
  3. When everything is going wrong at once, traffic, the inbox, the kid, the deadline, stop fighting each item and ask what you have decided about yourself this morning. Fix that, and watch the list shrink.

If all my complaints had one root, what would it be?

Buddhism

All the sufferings you can name have one root, the grasping mind. Pulling one weed at a time keeps you busy forever, and reaching the root ends the field.

Zen

The fault is not in the moon but in the finger pointing at it. Clear the seeing and a thousand confusions resolve without being handled one by one.

Stoicism · Epictetus

People are not disturbed by events but by their opinions about events. Change the judgment and the trouble that seemed to live in the world turns out to have lived in you.
