Mark 10:14 Meaning But When Jesus Saw It

But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

What does Mark 10:14 mean?

The mind that would push the small and defenseless away is the ego guarding its gates, deciding who is worthy of love and who must be kept out. But the awakened teacher within refuses that sorting, for the kingdom belongs to whatever comes without defense.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind that would push the small and defenseless away is the ego guarding its gates, deciding who is worthy of love and who must be kept out. But the awakened teacher within refuses that sorting, for the kingdom belongs to whatever comes without defense. To come as a child is to arrive without the armor of judgment, trusting rather than bargaining, open rather than guarded.

This openness is not weakness but the one condition in which love is recognized. The ego calls it foolish and would forbid it, because a mind that no longer defends itself has nothing left to fear and nothing left to attack. That undefended trust is the very door through which heaven is remembered.

Little children: the part of the mind that comes without defenses, the trusting and undefended state in which love is received rather than earned.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

A young child has not yet been captured by thought. It meets the world without a screen of concepts, without a story about who it is and what it lacks. This is why such openness belongs to the kingdom of God, for that kingdom is not a place you reach later but the aliveness of this moment when you are simply present.

You do not need to become childish. You need only to set down the heavy self the mind has built and meet life directly again, as awareness rather than as the anxious thinker. Then the kingdom is here, not because you earned it, but because you stopped covering it over with thought.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

The indignation falls on the disciples, the very people closest to him, because the religious mind is the most efficient barrier to religion. They have begun sorting the worthy from the unworthy, and that sorting is the ego at its most respectable.

A child lives without a past pressing on him, meeting the morning as it arrives rather than through the residue of yesterday. The kingdom belongs to that quality because it is available only now, and the mind is never now, always shuttling between what was and what may be. Nothing needs to be earned to enter, only unlearned, and the trembling before that suggestion is the false center sensing it has no place there.

  1. Try asking one honest question today without first checking how it will make you look. Say "I don't actually know what that means" and let it sit there.
  2. When someone comes to you with something small, a kid, a coworker, a friend with a tiny worry, put the phone face down and give them your whole face. Do not decide first whether it deserves your time.
  3. In a meeting where you feel the urge to defend yourself, wait one beat before answering. See what you would say if you were not protecting anything.

What am I guarding, and who has been kept outside because of it?
