SELF-HELP
The thing you keep for safety is usually the exact thing telling you who you still are.
Throwing away your only asset before any evidence arrives is what a must looks like from the outside. That cloak was the working equipment of a blind beggar, the surface coins landed on, and keeping it in reach would have kept the old life fully funded, which keeps the identity intact, which produces the careful voice of a man asking for alms instead of the sprint of a man who believes Jesus will not pass this way again.
He still could not see when he threw it, and that sequence is the entire mechanism: the standard rises, the fallback goes, the how shows up after. Reverse it, wait for the means before raising the standard, and the cloak stays spread on the ground for the rest of your life.

What are you keeping within reach in case the new life does not work out?
A traveler who will not put the bag down cannot pick anything up. Letting go of what you carried is the first real step, not the reward at the end.
Gaining comes by adding. The deeper way comes by subtracting, dropping and dropping until what is left can actually move.
The seeker is told to burn the old coat. What you wear every day is what tells you and everyone else who you are, so it has to go before the new thing can arrive.
