Mark 10:9 · World English Bible

Mark 10:9 Meaning What Therefore God Has Joined Together

What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.

What does Mark 10:9 mean?

What love has united cannot in truth be broken, and every attempt to break it is only the ego insisting on a separation that was never there. The joining spoken of is not an arrangement to be preserved by effort; it is the underlying oneness of minds, which no judgment or grievance can actually undo.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

What love has united cannot in truth be broken, and every attempt to break it is only the ego insisting on a separation that was never there. The joining spoken of is not an arrangement to be preserved by effort; it is the underlying oneness of minds, which no judgment or grievance can actually undo. To put asunder is to dream of division, to look at what is whole and see it split by the guilt one wishes to place outside.

The correction is simply to stop the tearing, to lay down the wish to make two out of one. A mind at peace does not labor to hold anything together, because it recognizes that nothing love created was ever apart. The parting was imagined; the union was always the fact.

  1. When your mind starts building a case against someone, stop adding to it. You do not have to prove them wrong today, and dropping the case costs you nothing you actually want.
  2. If there is a person you have been keeping at arm's length by text, send one ordinary message with nothing to settle in it. Ask how their week is going and mean it.
  3. In the middle of an argument, when you feel the pull to make it you against them, take one breath and remember you are both trying to be okay. Then say the next thing from there.

Where am I working hard to keep someone separate from me, and what would it cost me to stop?

Tao Te Ching

The ten thousand things look separate but come from one source. Trying to force them apart takes effort; letting them be what they are takes none.

Advaita Vedanta · Upanishads

The self in you and the self in another are not two selves looking at each other. Division is a trick of the eye, not a fact of being.

Zen

The wave argues that it is not the ocean. It can argue all day and still never once leave the water.
