CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

What the mind casts aside as worthless is exactly what its whole reality rests upon. The builders are the thoughts that construct a self out of judgment, and they throw away innocence as having no place in their design. Yet the discarded stone turns out to be the cornerstone, the one foundation without which nothing stands, for the self the ego rejects is the true Self on which all being is joined.

The correction, then, is not to add something new but to recover what was thrown away. The mind has only to take up again the innocence it discarded, and it finds it holding the whole together.

Stone: the innocence the mind rejects, revealed as the one foundation everything rests upon Builders: the judging thoughts that construct a self and cast away the very truth that would sustain it

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Builders throw aside the stone that does not fit their plan. Yet the piece they discard turns out to be the one that holds the whole structure together. This happens inside a person too. The trait you are ashamed of, the part of yourself you push away as useless, is often the very thing you need most.

What we reject does not lose its importance by being rejected. It waits. When a life finally has to become whole, these cast-off pieces become the foundation, because a person is only complete when the parts once thrown away are taken back in.

Live Mark 12:10 today

  1. Think of a quality in yourself you treat as a flaw, maybe you are slow to answer, or you cry easily, or you cannot fake interest. Spend a minute considering that it might be the strongest thing about you.
  2. Today, thank someone whose work nobody sees, the person who restocks the shelves, cleans the office, keeps the group chat alive. Say the specific thing, not just thanks.
  3. In a meeting or a hard talk, when you are tempted to lead with the impressive version of yourself, try the honest one instead. Say I do not know, or I was wrong, and watch the room hold.

What have you thrown out of your own life as worthless that may be holding the rest of it up?
