Mark 12:34 Meaning When Jesus Saw That He Answered Wisely

When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from God’s Kingdom.” No one dared ask him any question after that.

What does Mark 12:34 mean?

The kingdom is not a distant place to reach but a nearness in the mind, and a mind that has traded sacrifice for love has already crossed most of the distance. What remains is not more effort but the last surrender of the belief that anything separates it from what it seeks.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The kingdom is not a distant place to reach but a nearness in the mind, and a mind that has traded sacrifice for love has already crossed most of the distance. What remains is not more effort but the last surrender of the belief that anything separates it from what it seeks.

When love has been recognized this clearly, the arguing mind falls silent, because there is nothing left to defend. The questions were only fear looking for a foothold, and when the answer is love itself, fear has nothing more to ask.

Kingdom: the state of mind that has remembered it was never separate, the home love never left.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

There are moments when you sense you are close to something, a stillness just beneath the surface of your day, a spaciousness that seems to be waiting. You almost touch it, and then the mind rushes back with its questions, and the doorway closes. Being not far is a tender place to stand. It means the veil is thin, the noise has softened enough that presence is nearly breaking through.

What keeps you at the threshold rather than through it is usually the questioning mind itself, forever seeking to grasp intellectually what can only be entered by becoming still. After this exchange, no one dared ask anything more. The questions stopped. And this is the very movement being pointed to: the endless mental seeking finally falls quiet, and in that silence you are no longer near the spacious inner realm, analyzing it from a distance. You have stepped inside, where nothing more needs to be asked.

  1. Instead of reaching for your phone the next time you have a free minute, just be where you are. Nothing is missing from this moment, which is why nothing needs to be fetched.
  2. In a conversation where you feel the urge to win, let the other person have the last word. The silence you leave is not defeat, it is the sound of nothing needing defending.
  3. When a group chat turns into an argument, read it, feel the pull, and put the phone down without replying. You will be surprised how little is lost.

What am I still defending, and what would it cost me to simply stop?
