Fear demands a spectacle before it will believe, asking love to prove itself by rescuing the body on command. But belief bought by a display would not be faith at all; it would be the ego's bargain, trust given only when threat is removed.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Fear demands a spectacle before it will believe, asking love to prove itself by rescuing the body on command. But belief bought by a display would not be faith at all; it would be the ego's bargain, trust given only when threat is removed. Love does not descend to satisfy this demand, because the miracle it offers is a change of mind, not a change in the flesh that fear is watching.
Even those who suffer beside it join in the reviling, and this is the deepest sorrow, that shared pain does not by itself open the heart. Two minds in the same anguish can still choose attack, for suffering teaches nothing on its own; only the willingness to see differently does, and that willingness cannot be commanded from the outside.
Cross: the place of the body's suffering that fear mistakes for the whole of the self Christ the King of Israel: the innocence within that reigns over the mind's true home and will not prove itself by rescuing the body They that were crucified with him: the parts of the self that share the suffering yet still choose to attack rather than to see
Christian Psychology lens
What am I waiting to be rescued from before I will let myself be at peace?
Water is the softest thing and it wears down stone. It never proves its strength by force, which is exactly why nothing overcomes it.
What stands in the way becomes the way. You cannot bargain the obstacle away, and the change asked of you is in how you meet it, not in whether it disappears.
Two people in identical pain can respond entirely differently, one with bitterness and one with compassion. Suffering alone teaches nothing. What you do with it is everything.
