Mark 2:9 · World English Bible

Mark 2:9 Meaning Which Is Easier

Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?’

What does Mark 2:9 mean?

The mind believes the body is hard to move and guilt impossible to lift, when in truth the order is reversed. To forgive and to heal are one act, for the paralysis of the body is only the outer shape of a mind convinced it is condemned.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind believes the body is hard to move and guilt impossible to lift, when in truth the order is reversed. To forgive and to heal are one act, for the paralysis of the body is only the outer shape of a mind convinced it is condemned. What seems the greater miracle, restoring motion to limbs, is the smaller thing; the release of guilt is the whole of it, and the body simply follows where the mind is freed.

So the question exposes a false measure. Nothing done for the body is difficult once the belief in sin is undone, because that belief was the only weight, and a mind that lays it down finds it was never truly bound at all.

Sick of the palsy: the mind held motionless by its conviction of guilt, unable to rise while it believes itself condemned Bed: the settled place of that helplessness, the fixed self-image the mind lies down within and calls its condition

  1. When you feel stuck today, too tired, too late, too far behind, check the sentence underneath it. Often it is something like, I have already ruined this, and you will find your body loosens a little when you let that sentence go.
  2. With one person, stop managing the behavior and go to the hurt. Instead of another conversation about the dishes or the tone of the text, ask what they actually feel blamed for, and tell them they are not.
  3. Under pressure, try the inside thing first. Before you redo the plan or send the long email, take thirty seconds to stop condemning yourself for being here, and then decide what to do.

What feels impossible to change right now, and what belief is actually holding it in place?

Dhammapada

All that we are arises with our thoughts; with our thoughts we make the world. Change the thought and the thing you called your condition begins to move.

Tao Te Ching

The hardest things are done while they are still easy, and the sage accomplishes without strain. What looks like the great labor turns out to be the small shift made early.

Krishna says the one who has mastered the mind has it as their greatest friend, and the one who has not has it as their worst enemy. The real weight was never in the limbs.
