Mark 6:3 Meaning Isn’t This the Carpenter
Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him.

Mark 6:3 · World English Bible
Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him.
When a mind meets what has come to save it, the ego reaches for the familiar and files the messenger under a trade and a bloodline, a carpenter, a known mother, a roster of brothers and sisters, as though salvation could be contained by the history of a body. To be offended here is to defend the small self against a light that will not fit the categories fear has drawn.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
When a mind meets what has come to save it, the ego reaches for the familiar and files the messenger under a trade and a bloodline, a carpenter, a known mother, a roster of brothers and sisters, as though salvation could be contained by the history of a body. To be offended here is to defend the small self against a light that will not fit the categories fear has drawn. The stumbling is never in the one who came, but in eyes that will look only at the past.
Recognition asks the mind to see past what it thinks it already knows, and to let the innocent be more than the frame drawn around him.
Carpenter: the identity the ego assigns from the body's history and its work, the small role it uses to shrink a savior down to something already known and dismissed. Mary his mother: the familiar origin the mind trusts, the remembered past it clings to so it need not meet the present as new. Brothers and sisters: the web of known relations the ego lists to keep a mind bounded, the ordinary kinships it counts as proof that nothing here could carry more than the ordinary.

MANIFESTATION
The neighbors reduce the awakening power to its outward record: trade, mother, brothers, sisters, all the known facts. Seeing only the familiar surface, they cannot receive the one standing in front of them, and their offense is the mind refusing to grant that something eternal wears an ordinary form. The carpenter is imagination shaping matter, working in the human body as a builder works in wood.
Mary is matter made soft enough to take a new impression, the receptive ground in which the creative act is conceived. What is called history here is an inner drama unfolding inside a person's own head, not a village scene from long ago. The kin and the town are the whole set of settled facts about you that deny your deeper identity. Familiarity is the last veil, and it blinds the ones who think they already know you.

SELF-HELP
What a person already knows about someone sets the ceiling on what they are able to receive from them.
A file of references collected in childhood does the work of a judgment without ever feeling like one. Recognition closes a question, a closed question fixes the state a person meets someone in, and a settled state turns into offense the moment that someone exceeds the file.
The trade was real, the family was real, and accuracy is what makes this kind of fence so hard to see from the inside. Certainty about who somebody is arrives dressed as knowledge, so nobody thinks to test it. What their certainty cost that town was every work he did in places where nobody was sure what he was.
Christian Psychology lens
Who have I stopped actually listening to because I decided long ago who they are?
If your cup is already full of what you know, nothing new can be poured in. Expertise about a person is the fullest cup there is.
Knowing that you do not know is the beginning of real sight. To be sure you have someone figured out is the most ordinary kind of blindness.
We argue over the name of the thing and miss the thing itself. The familiar face in front of you may be carrying what you have been looking for everywhere else.
