Mark 6:8 Meaning He Commanded Them That They Should Take

He commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,

What does Mark 6:8 mean?

To carry correction the mind must set down everything it thought would protect it, for the ego's provisions are all forms of the belief that supply comes from the world and that the self must guard against lack. Taking nothing is not deprivation but freedom, the discovery that a mind trusting love needs no defense it has stored against tomorrow.

Christian Psychology

To carry correction the mind must set down everything it thought would protect it, for the ego's provisions are all forms of the belief that supply comes from the world and that the self must guard against lack. Taking nothing is not deprivation but freedom, the discovery that a mind trusting love needs no defense it has stored against tomorrow. The one thing kept is the single support of that trust, all that is required for the whole journey.

What weighs a mind down is not the road but the baggage of fear it insists on hauling. Laid aside, the burden is seen never to have been needed, and the traveler learns that everything necessary is already given.

Staff: the one true support the mind may lean on, the strength of trust that is all the journey asks. Bread: the stored provision the ego clutches against imagined lack, the belief that a mind must feed itself from the world. Money: the hoarded security of the ego, the treasure laid up against a future that trust makes unnecessary. Purse: the container of the mind's defenses, the place where fear keeps what it thinks it cannot do without.

Live Mark 6:8 today

  1. Leave the house with just keys, phone, and wallet, no bag of backups. One short errand is plenty to feel it.
  2. When a friend offers to cover lunch or drive, say yes instead of evening it up right away. Letting someone give to you is its own kind of trust.
  3. Before you buy the thing meant to keep some future problem away, wait a day. If the worry still looks real tomorrow, fine, but most of them fade.

What am I hauling around to protect me from something that has not happened?
