Matthew 10:41 Meaning He Who Receives a Prophet

He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.

What does Matthew 10:41 mean?

To truly welcome a prophet is itself a way of growing whole, because only a person who already carries the same deep pattern within can recognize it moving through someone else. Opening your door to one who carries the image of God is no plain courtesy.

To truly welcome a prophet is itself a way of growing whole, because only a person who already carries the same deep pattern within can recognize it moving through someone else.

Opening your door to one who carries the image of God is no plain courtesy. Something in the host is claimed, a sleeping shape stirs toward awareness. Yet the nearer danger is self-importance dressed up as welcome: the follower who basks in the prophet's glow, swelling in reputation while the Master carries all the weight, never meets that deep pattern honestly.

The reward named for the good, which is peace, belongs only to the one who goes through the same inner demand the prophet answered.

  1. Think of someone you quietly admire, and ask what they actually did to become that way. Then pick the smallest piece of it you could start doing yourself this week, before you post about them or tell anyone.
  2. When someone you respect says something that lands, try saying back what it cost you to hear it instead of just "so good" or a fire emoji. Real agreement sounds different from applause, and the person usually feels it.
  3. In a meeting where you find yourself name dropping the smart person on your team, stop and offer your own read instead. Borrowed credibility feels great for about ten seconds and teaches you nothing.

Where am I standing close to someone good so their light falls on me, instead of walking the road they walked?

The old wheelwright says his skill cannot be handed over in words. Only someone who has done the work from the inside can recognize it in another.

What you are seeking in the teacher is a seed already planted in you. The lover and the beloved share one nature, or the recognition could never happen.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Admiring a wise person while refusing the training that made them wise is just flattery. The praise costs nothing, the practice costs everything.
