For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

What does Matthew 11:13 mean?

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The prophets and the law are the long season of promise, all that points ahead and prepares. They run "until John," and John is the last state before the turn, the reform readying a person for what promise alone could not give. Prophecy carries a person to the threshold; it cannot carry him across. At John the pointing ends. The fulfilling begins.

These figures are not men who once lived but states within you, and everyone passes through them toward the final state, Christ Jesus. The whole plan of redemption is worked out inside a person, not staged once in history. What the prophets foretold is the awakening of God inside your own skull, his first act of unveiling himself as you. Only the Son can reveal the Father, and when he does you learn you are the Father. The words end at John so the experience begins in you.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The prophets and the law reaching only as far as John mark the end of the old order of consciousness, the outward striving and rule-keeping that carries a person up to the threshold but no further. John is the last of the preparatory states, the highest reach of the natural man before the inner Christ awakens.

Everything born of law and prophecy is preparation, the disciplining of the lower self that readies the ground. It runs up to John and stops, because what comes next is not more effort but a birth from within, and beyond that edge the higher life begins on a different principle.

  1. You have probably saved more than you have lived. Today, close the podcast or the book you are halfway through and just sit with the one thing you already know you should be doing inwardly. Five minutes, no new input.
  2. When you talk with a friend about something you both believe, catch yourself if the conversation is only quoting and explaining. Ask them instead what it has actually been like for them, and answer the same question honestly.
  3. When you are stuck and reach for your phone to look up what to do, stop before you tap. Give yourself one quiet minute first, because the answer you are searching for has to become yours anyway.

How much of what I believe have I only been told?

Zen

The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon. Every teaching can carry you to the edge of seeing, and then the pointing has to stop and the seeing has to be yours.

Upanishads

The truth is not won by hearing, by argument, or by learning, but by the one to whom the self reveals its own nature. The words prepare; only the experience delivers.

Tao Te Ching 1

The Way that can be spoken is not the Way. Language takes you to the gate and goes no further, and what happens past the gate happens inside you or not at all.
