Matthew 11:6 Meaning Blessed Is He Who Finds No Occasion

Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.

What does Matthew 11:6 mean?

Love does not offend, but the ego takes offense, because the presence of love exposes the emptiness of the case the ego has built. When a mind meets healing and recoils, the recoil is not caused by love but by the guilt love threatens to undo, for the ego would rather be affronted than corrected.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Love does not offend, but the ego takes offense, because the presence of love exposes the emptiness of the case the ego has built. When a mind meets healing and recoils, the recoil is not caused by love but by the guilt love threatens to undo, for the ego would rather be affronted than corrected. To be untroubled by love is simply to have laid down the defense that made its gentleness feel like an attack.

A mind at peace with love has stopped guarding the wound it once called itself. Blessing is nothing added from outside; it is what remains when the mind no longer bristles against its own release.

Live Matthew 11:6 today

  1. When a kind word lands and you hear yourself deflect it, stop mid sentence and just say thank you. The discomfort is not from them, it is from how unused you are to being treated well.
  2. If someone offers you honest help today, take it without paying it back in the same hour. Let being cared for be allowed.
  3. In the feedback conversation you are dreading, hear the sentence all the way to the end before your defense starts building. Most of what stings is aimed at the work, not at you.

What kindness have I been treating as an attack?

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Take away the judgment "I have been wronged" and the wound goes with it. Offense lives in the opinion, not in the thing that happened.

Zen · Hakuin

When a man was falsely accused and ruined by it, he answered only "Is that so?" The insult found nothing in him to catch on.

Tao Te Ching 78

Water yields and so cannot be broken. What is rigid is what shatters when it is struck.
