Matthew 13:25 Meaning But While People Slept

but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel weeds also among the wheat, and went away.

What does Matthew 13:25 mean?

Sleep here is the mind gone unwatchful, forgetting which teacher it has chosen, and in that forgetting fear moves quietly and plants its thought among the true ones. The enemy is never outside the field.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Sleep here is the mind gone unwatchful, forgetting which teacher it has chosen, and in that forgetting fear moves quietly and plants its thought among the true ones. The enemy is never outside the field. It is the belief in separation working while the mind looks away, dropping guilt among what love has grown, so that the two seem to spring from the same ground and the mind can no longer tell them apart.

The stranger who sows and goes his way is only a picture of how quietly this happens, unseen and unaccused. Yet nothing has been ruined. What was planted in darkness can be seen in light, and a mind that wakes and watches learns to tell the seed of fear from the seed of love, and to choose again.

Wheat: the thoughts love has planted in the mind, the true growth that belongs to it. Tares: the thoughts of fear that mimic the true ones, guilt sown among what is real so the two seem alike. Enemy: the belief in separation itself, the mind's own choice for fear seen as if it came from somewhere else.

Live Matthew 13:25 today

  1. Once today, stop and ask where the thought you are carrying came from. Some of what feels like your own conviction got planted by a headline or a bad night of sleep.
  2. Before you forward the angry story or repeat the thing you heard about someone, check whether you know it or just absorbed it. Fear travels fastest in group chats.
  3. When you catch yourself certain that someone meant the worst, hold it up and look at it in daylight. You can still be right, but check first.

Which of my certainties did I actually choose, and which just grew while I was not watching?
