Matthew 14:17 Meaning They Told Him

They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”

What does Matthew 14:17 mean?

The 5 loaves are the 5 senses, the bread the body eats through eye and ear and tongue and skin and nose, and by themselves they feed only the flesh. The 2 fishes are the higher current, spirit and wisdom, the Pisces pair of consciousness rising and consciousness descending that religion keeps bound in duality.

What looks like a meager supply is the whole apparatus of a person: the senses gathering the outer world and the spiritual mind waiting to lift what they gather. Nothing more is needed, because the senses were never meant to end in the body. When the higher consciousness takes hold of them, the little store is raised and multiplied, and the same 5 gates that fed only the flesh now pour their harvest into the spirit and feed the crowd within.

5 loaves: the 5 physical senses, the bread taken in through eye, ear, tongue, skin, and nose 2 fishes: spirit and wisdom, the higher current, the Pisces pair of ascending and descending consciousness held in duality by religion

Live Matthew 14:17 today

  1. On your commute, pick one sense and give it the whole ride: the texture of the seat, the sounds under the music, the light on the buildings. It is the same trip you always take. Let it be enough.
  2. At dinner with your family, put the screens somewhere else and actually taste the food and hear their voices. No better evening is coming. This is the one.
  3. When you feel short on time, money, or patience, say out loud what you do have in front of you right now. Then use that, instead of waiting for more.

What have I been calling not enough when it is really all I need?

Before enlightenment, carry water and chop wood. After, carry water and chop wood. The same ordinary acts, lit differently from inside.

Tao Te Ching 33

The one who knows he has enough is already rich. What you are calling meager is what you have been given to work with.

Sufism · Rumi

You keep searching for the sea while you are already made of water. What you think is too little is the whole thing, unrecognized.
