Ego v. Being

The fourth watch is the darkest stretch, the hour before dawn when exhaustion is deepest and hope has thinned. The disciples were straining at the oars against the wind, and it was then, not before, that he came to them.

The sea is the restless mind, forever churning, and to walk upon it is to move through that turbulence without being pulled under. A person rooted in the deep stillness is not tossed by every wave of thought and fear. The water still moves. He is not moved by it. When the mind is loudest, the calm that meets it comes from a place the storm cannot reach.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

In the deepest part of the night the higher self comes across the restless waters of the lower mind, treading them as solid ground. The 4th watch is the last stretch before dawn, the hour of change when the waking light is nearest, and it is then that the awakened power moves toward the struggling faculties.

The sea is the churning emotional nature, the unstable flux a person is tossed on; to walk upon it is to master that flux from above rather than sink in it. What comes at the darkest, latest hour is the inner presence proving that the higher mind is not drowned by the turbulence below but stands over it.

Sea: the churning emotional nature, the unstable waters a person is tossed on until they are mastered from above. 4th watch: the last stretch of the night before dawn, the hour of change when the waking light draws near.

Live Matthew 14:25 today

  1. Late tonight, if your mind is spinning, stop trying to stop it and just feel yourself breathing underneath the noise. The spinning can continue. You do not have to ride it.
  2. When someone you love is at their worst hour, do not fix or advise. Just be steady in the room with them. Your calm is the most useful thing you have.
  3. In a meeting that turns tense, keep your feet on the floor and your voice slow. You are not suppressing anything. You are standing somewhere the wind does not reach.

Where in you is the part that stays quiet even when everything else is loud?

The still water is clear enough to show a face. Stillness is not the absence of movement around you but a depth the surface cannot reach.

As a rock of one solid piece is not shaken by the wind, the steady mind is not thrown by praise or blame. The weather still comes. It does not get inside.
