What does Matthew 17:11 mean?

Elias, from the Hebrew Eliyahu, carries the meaning "my God is Yah," the ascending fire that clears the way before the higher self can be born in a person. This coming-first is the order of the inner work: the burning, purifying energy of the spine must rise and sweep the lower nature clean before the Christ awareness settles into the awakened body.

Elias is the preparatory fire, the kundalini force that restores by consuming what is dead and returning the system to its original wholeness.

Restoration is not repair of the outer world but the reassembly of a divided person into one current running from base to crown. The fiery prophet goes ahead because nothing higher can occupy a house still full of the old debris. When the ascending flame has done its work, all things stand in their true arrangement again.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Elijah is not only a man from the past. He is a figure in the deeper mind, the old wise guide who appears whenever a person is about to change. Before anything new can grow in us, this older wisdom comes first to prepare the ground and gather back the scattered parts of ourselves.

A man exploring his own daydreams once met an old prophet there, a figure who became his inner teacher for years. That is what restoring all things means: this guide comes first because a person has to be gathered back into one whole before they can become someone new.

  1. Clear one thing out today before you add anything. Unsubscribe from the newsletters you never open, delete the apps you resent, empty one drawer. Make the space before you fill it.
  2. Apologize for the one small thing still sitting between you and someone, the unanswered message or the sharp remark. Clearing it is not weakness, it is what lets the two of you breathe again.
  3. When anger or frustration burns through you at work, let it burn something useful. Use the heat to finally say the honest thing or end the arrangement that stopped working, instead of spraying it on the nearest person.

What in you is asking to be cleared out rather than added to?

The teacher poured until the visitor's cup ran over. You cannot be given anything while you are still full of what you already carry.

Sufism · Rumi

The grief and burning that comes through you is not ruining you, it is clearing you out. The house has to be swept before the guest will come.

Hinduism · yoga tradition

A fire rises along the spine when the inner work begins, burning off what was heavy and dead so that a clearer awareness can settle into the body.
