Matthew 17:12 Meaning But I Tell You That Elijah Has

but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.

What does Matthew 17:12 mean?

That Elias has already come and went unrecognized is the plain teaching that the soul returns, one life following another, and the awakened one arrives again and again unseen by the sleeping mind. God is not a figure enthroned far above but a presence dwelling within, and the awareness that carries this knowing is treated as men please, mishandled by a consciousness that cannot recognize what stands before it.

The Son of man, the higher mind rising in a person, meets the same fate at the hands of the same blindness.

What plays out is the indwelling divinity suffering under the crowd's failure to know it. The returning light is always here; the ordinary mind, unable to see it, does with it whatever it wills.

Live Matthew 17:12 today

  1. Today, when something ordinary is actually good, the coffee, the light on the drive, the quiet before the house wakes up, stop long enough to let it register. The thing you keep waiting for is often already here in small form.
  2. Treat one person you usually skim past as if they were the most important person in your day. The delivery driver, the checkout worker, the colleague you talk over. Look at them properly and see who is there.
  3. When someone irritates you today, pause before you fire back in the thread or the hallway. Ask yourself what you might be failing to see in them, and answer that person instead of the one in your head.

Who or what have you been overlooking that has been right in front of you the whole time?
