Matthew 21:39 Meaning So They Took Him

So they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

What does Matthew 21:39 mean?

The vineyard is the cultivated self, the field of consciousness where the higher fruit is meant to ripen, and the son thrown outside its wall and killed is the divine spark expelled by the very powers that were set to keep the ground. The lower tenants, the appetites and the ego that occupy a person, refuse the true heir and drive the inner Christ-nature out of the place it came to inherit.

To cast him out and slay him is the ordinary condition of the unawakened self: the indwelling divine potential pushed to the margins of one's own life and suppressed so the tenants can keep control of the harvest. What religion tells as a crime done once in history is the daily fact of a spark rejected inside the field where it was born to rule.

Live Matthew 21:39 today

  1. Find the thing you keep pushing to the end of the day until it disappears, the walk, the prayer, the ten quiet minutes, and put it first tomorrow, even in a smaller size.
  2. Ask someone close to you what they think you have let go of in the last year, then listen without defending it.
  3. In the hour when you are most driven, step outside for three minutes with no phone and let the part of you that was shoved aside catch up.

Tao Te Ching 1

Something real is there before anything is named, and the naming and the busyness push it to the edge of a life. It never leaves, it is just no longer given room.

Upanishads

Two birds sit in the same tree. One eats the fruit without pause, the other watches, and a person can live a whole life as only the eating one.

Buddhism

The clarity in you is not missing, it is covered over, the way the sun stays whole behind cloud. The work is uncovering, not acquiring.
