Matthew 22:8 Meaning Then He Said to His Servants

Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.

What does Matthew 22:8 mean?

The wedding is the joining of the lower self to the higher, the marriage of flesh and spirit within one body, and it stands prepared while the faculties first invited fail to rise to it. Worthiness here is readiness, the capacity to hold the union; the parts long counted on cannot bear the weight of the joining and so are passed over.

Esoteric

The wedding is the joining of the lower self to the higher, the marriage of flesh and spirit within one body, and it stands prepared while the faculties first invited fail to rise to it. Worthiness here is readiness, the capacity to hold the union; the parts long counted on cannot bear the weight of the joining and so are passed over. The banquet is set, the inner room furnished, and still the expected guests are found unfit for what is offered.

The union does not wait on those who cannot receive it. When the familiar powers of the person prove unready, the invitation opens outward to whatever in the self can actually answer.

The wedding: the inner union of the lower self with the higher, flesh married to spirit within the one body. The servants: the working faculties of the person, sent out to carry the call through the whole self.

Live Matthew 22:8 today

  1. Sit down alone for five minutes with your phone in another room and no plan for the time. If your mind keeps reaching for something to do, that is the part of you that cannot hold stillness yet, and the quieter part underneath is the one that can.
  2. In your next real conversation, put the phone face down and let the other person finish a whole thought before you start forming yours. The moment was already there; what changed is which part of you showed up for it.
  3. When the pressure hits, a sharp email, traffic that will not move, a meeting going sideways, let your first reaction speak only in your head and then wait one breath. The reflex that jumps first is usually not up to the job, and something steadier is standing right behind it.

Which part of me keeps getting invited and keeps not showing up?

A cup already full of yesterday's tea cannot hold what is being poured now. The tea is ready; the readiness has to be on your side.

Bhagavad Gita

A leaf, a flower, a little water is enough when it is offered with a whole heart. What makes an offering acceptable is the state of the one offering, not the size of the gift.

The guest house is prepared and the host is waiting, but the one who arrives distracted walks past the door. Presence is the only ticket to the feast.
