Matthew 22:9 Meaning Go Therefore to the Intersections

Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.’

What does Matthew 22:9 mean?

When the honored faculties refuse the union, the call runs out along the open roads of the self to gather whatever can be found. The highways are the crossing paths of ordinary thought and impulse, the common traffic of the mind rather than its proud centers, and it is from these that the guests for the joining are now drawn.

Esoteric

When the honored faculties refuse the union, the call runs out along the open roads of the self to gather whatever can be found. The highways are the crossing paths of ordinary thought and impulse, the common traffic of the mind rather than its proud centers, and it is from these that the guests for the joining are now drawn. Everything found there, high or low, is bidden to the marriage of spirit and flesh.

The union will be filled, and it fills from the parts once overlooked. What answers the call is not the self's chosen best but whatever within a person is actually willing to come in.

The highways: the open crossing-roads of the mind, the common traffic of thought and impulse outside its proud centers. The marriage: the inner joining of the lower self to the higher, spirit and flesh made one in the person.

Live Matthew 22:9 today

  1. Today let one ordinary stretch count, the walk to the car, the dishes, the wait for a video call to connect, instead of treating it as dead time between the real parts. Most of your life is made of these.
  2. Reach out to someone who is not in your usual circle, the coworker you barely talk to, the old friend you let drift. The people you did not choose on purpose often bring what the chosen ones cannot.
  3. When you feel something you would rather not admit, jealousy, boredom, fear, let it in and sit with it instead of pushing it off. The parts you turn away are the ones carrying the information.

What have I been leaving outside because it did not look like it belonged?

Zen

Awakening does not wait for the tidy parts of you. Carrying water and chopping wood, the plainest moments, are where it actually happens.

Taoism

The great way runs through low ground, the way water goes to the valley rather than the peak. What is overlooked is where the current is strongest.

Sufism · Rumi

Come as you are, with everything, the broken promises and the shame included. There is no filtered version of you that gets in while the rest waits outside.
